Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey

Suing me in an accident

Hi,

I met with an accident in 1999. The car I was riding in was not mine. The insurance company charged me(owners of the car I was riding) with accident.

The accident was not a major accident. No one was injured at the accident no ambulance was called everything was as usual.

The plaintiff is suing me for a lot of money more than what the car is insured for.

My question is that how are this kind of cases handled.Since the amount is so huge it is literally not possible for me to pay. I recieved the notice yesterday. Colud you please advice me what to do.

-Thank you.

Re: Suing me in an accident

If you have auto insurance in NJ or elsewhere, your ins. co. probably has a duty to provide you a defense. If you do have insurance, call your insurer. If you do not have insurance, you still must run do not walk to an attorney! I'm not being funny here, you could have a serious problem, and you must always treat a complaint seriously. If you do not know a lawyer, call the NJ St. Bar Assoc. lawyer referral line for a lawyer referral. You must file an answer to the complaint promptly, so do not delay!
