Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey

I won a dog bite case in 2004 But, I was incarcerated and My lawyer advised me that there was a check in his office for me all, I had to do was give my sister power of attorney and she would be able to pick up my check.

I did that, and, The attorneys never called her to pick up the check.

after I was released from incarceration, in 2011. I spoke to the attorney and They don't have the files anymore. How do, I get my check reissued to me he said i have to chase down the insurance company
