Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

6 months rent towards breaking the lease. Is it Valid?

I have signed for one year lease. I happen to move out after 6 months due to job transfer. The lease says until the next tenant moves in or until the lease expires, I have to pay the rent.

Now the lease expired and landlord had sent a huge bill for 6 months stating apartment was vacant.

Security Deposit was withheld for 6 months and showing as adjusted against 6 months rent.

Is it Valid? What are the possible solutions for this issue?

In New Jersey the landlord must activily try to rent the place. He must place an add in the local paper and he must contiually show the place. You may need an attorney to help you if the bill is has high as you say. If this matter in in Northern NJ, you can call my office for a free consultation at 201-646-9600.
