If you own the house outright, you should ask your lawyer to draw a deed that will accomplish the transfer. It will help if you have the current deed, title insurance policy, and survey, but that is not essential. If the house has a mortgage on it, you will need the permission of the holder of the mortgage before conveying any interest in the property. Without that permission, your wife will not get clear title and you will have committed an act of default under the mortgage. That could result in the mortgage holder foreclosing. However, in this economy, it probably would not. It will, however, complicate things for example if you should die and may defeat the purpose of the transfer. Drawing a new deed should not be a costly thing. There are so many things that can go wrong if you do it incorrectly, I don't recommend that you try it yourself. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm
