barrier free alterations

can a condo association prevent a home owner from making interior alterations to accomodate a person with disabilities

I do not know the law in this area for certain; it would take some research.

However, I suspect that alterations INSIDE the unit should not be subject to ANY condo restrictions unless there is some drastic impact OUTSIDE the unit. I also suspect that the Americans With Disabilities Act (federal ADA) and the New Jersey equivalent act (NJ has its own law on this topic) will both say that the condo can NOT prevent reasonable alterations for disability.

You want to be allowed to make the alterations, without having to sue anyone and go through much grief. A smart lawyer might help you to do that. I think I could do this for you!
