building a home

we have a contract to build a home. when we signed the contract we were told we woulg go to closing in dec 06. then we got a letter saying march07 the house hasn't even been started yet and we can't seem to get any honest answers from the foreman. we have called the company direct but no one answers the phone. if we tried to back out would we lose all the money we gave $50,000.

First, if you have an attorney go discus this with him. If not, read your contract and see if the builder has so many days to complete the house. Usually it is 180 days after the closing date. You need legal advice and should call for an appointment if you do not already have an attorney
