Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Claim of Property

husband passed away, the house which we live in is in my (wife) name. My husband bought the house from his parents a few years before he passed away. He has a brother and sister who were not envolved in the purchase of the house from their parents. Last July a deed surfaced given to me from my husband's sister with my husband, his brother, and his sister names on the deed. The deed has not been filed in Hackensack hall of records or in my local Cliffside Park Boro hall. They have only a copy. They are now suing me and want their share of the house. The deed is divided as such. 40% me, surviving spouse and 30% his brother, 30% his sister. What recourse do I have, if any that they presented this ''copy'' of deed and not the original.

Re: Claim of Property

You need to see a lawyer. Not much can be said without a review of the documents. My firm handles matters of this type, however it may be easier for you to work with a lawyer whose office is closer to you.
