Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Electrical wiring problem

Approximately 100 year old house purchased one year ago in Morristown, New Jersey. Recently when considering remodel of basement, I learned that the electrical wiring in the house is faulty and no contractor will consider remodel job because of risk of fire. The house was inspected prior to purchase and I was never told by the inspector or then owner that a electrical wiring problem existed. Changing the wiring now will require thousands of dollars. Do I have legal recourse?

Re: Electrical wiring problem

Your home inspection report needs to be reviewed by an attorney together with a current written report about the condition of the electrical. If the home inspector failed to find an obvious fault you may have grounds for a law suit/insurance claim. Have the town check for any violations. However, if your report suggested that you have an electrician look at the house you may not have a case.
