excess foreclosure funds

do you need an attorny to file for excess foreclosure funds in new jersey. i know you can do it yourself , but can a private recovery company file for it even if they are not attorneys

Be careful when using any kind of private company to "help" you get anything you are already entitled to. Mostly, they're in it to get some of your money, as a fee for doing what you could do yourself.

Beware of private recovery companies in this situation. They tend to charge an exorbitant fee for this service - up to 1/3 of the amount recovered. You are entitled by law to the excess funds from a sheriff's sale. If you would like me to handle this for you, I would charge an hourly fee rather than a percentage of recovery.
