excess funds

do you need a lawyer to file for excess foreclosure funds in new jersey, i know you can claim on your own , but can a private asset recovery company without attorneys caim it also

An individual can always represent himself in a civil proceeding however inadvisable that might be. Other entities such as most business organizations are not individuals and must be represented by a lawyer admitted to the bar of the applicable court or tribunal. Some exceptions are made in Small Claims Court and before administrative tribunals. Some jurisdictions make exceptions for single-member LLCs. It doesn't sound as if any of those exceptions would be applicable here unless the asset recovery company is a sole proprietorship.
