Property in St. Lucia would be governed by real property law there, but if your father still owned it at the time of his death, he could have devised it in his will. If he had no will, it would be disposed of under the intestate property law of the place where he resided at the time of his death. Your father's estate should be administered in the place where he resided at the time of his death. You may need to engage the legal services of a lawyer in that jurisdiction to represent your interest in the estate.
THIS RESPONSE IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, SINCE I DO NOT HAVE ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED, AND I DO NOT HAVE A REPRESENTATION AGREEMENT WITH YOU.
* If the answers to your question confirm that you have a valid issue or worthwhile claim, your next step should almost always be to establish a dialog with a lawyer who can provide specific advice to you. Contact a lawyer in your county or township.
* Another reason for contacting a lawyer is that it is often impossible to give a good answer in the Internet Q&A format without having more information. The unique circumstances of your situation and things that you may not have thought to mention in your question may completely change the answer. If you want to be sure that you have a complete answer to your question and an understanding of what that answer means, establish a connection with a lawyer who practices in the area of your concern.
You will only be able to determine you rights after you establish the true ownership of the property. That will require a title search in St. Lucia. Seeking legal counsel in that jurisdiction would be your best approach.
Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You will only be able to rely on advice from an attorney who you have actually retained. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
