Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
Is the history of lein on property able to be removed from historical record?
A family member states that a well respected lawyer with connections can make a lein on a property ''dissappear'' forever after it is settled through them. Is this true or some unethical/illegal practice?

I'm not sure what you mean, but I can say that a lien can be removed by settlement, or by challenging the propriety of the initial lien. Generally a lien is filed and recorded, and is there forever, even if satisfied. It is possible that IF the original lien should never have been filed that a judge could order the original lien struck, so it will never show up in future title searches, but I have not seen that done.

I'll take a lawyer who knows the law and can present a case effectivly over one with "connections" any day of the week. Law is no different than any other pursuit in that respect. If someone tells you that they can get something done because of their connections, it usually means that they can't get it done on their own merits but want you to pay a high fee anyway.
Good lawyers are respected by their colleagues and clients because of their competence, ethical behavior, and the results they achieve through applying and arguing the law.
