Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
new home base price dropped
I bought a new construction home and moved in in Sept 2007. The base price was $430,000. Now they have dropped the base price for the same model to $380,000. We have lived here for less than 6 months and feel like we have been ripped off. There have been no other houses built in the development. Is there anything I can do?

Re: new home base price dropped
Products go on sale all the time. You bought gas last week and then it went down. Were you ripped off? You bought milk last week and then it went up? Should you pay them the difference? When you buy stock and it goes down, are you "ripped off"? I think you get my point.
The reason you feel ripped off is because of the substantial amount involved. When you bought the house, you made a determination that the price was right and you purchased it. The fact that the market changed and the builder decided to reduce prices does not mean that you were ripped off. Indeed, if the real estate market went crazy and builder increased prices, you'd be celebrating your good fortune!
