Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

My home was severely damaged by rainwater coming from a farmer's field behind my house. Who can I contact since my municipality has been aware of this irrigation problem since 1989-which has done nothing to remedy this problem.

I have represented litigants in several cases involving damage from stormwater runoff. The municipality probably will not be of much help. Without knowing the full details, I believe that you should first make a claim with your homeowner's insurance carrier as well as any carrier of flood insurance if you have it. You might not get any satisfaction there, but at least you will preserve your claims. Your should also consider a suit against the adjacent landowner. Depending on what caused the runoff, you may have a good claim. The applicable law is not easily explained in a short note like this. If you would like to talk about it further, call at your convenience.
