Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
My husband and I have been married for 11 years and are purchasing our first home together. His credit is great-mine not so good. I have a judgement for $2800 from a credit card. It was suggested that I shouldnt be on the deed because they can place a lien on the home. What entitlements do I have to the property in case of death or divorce is it worth it to just be listed on the deed I need to protect myself as well.

You need to talk to a lawyer to get this straight. Do it before you buy the house.
If you have a lawyer and the lawyer can not answer your question, then....well, get another lawyer!

Thank you for your LawGuru question.
You should seek legal counsel before entering a contract to purchasing/closing on the new house. Please feel free to contact me ASAP so that we may explore your options and protect your legal rights. 973-921-0600.
Kindly note and remember that my response is merely a general comment on the law related to your question, and NOT legal advice or opinion. Also, your question and my response does NOT create an attorney-client relationship between us. You cannot rely upon what I have written, because I do not have all of the information that I need to advise you or render an opinion. Even simple facts you have not shared can completely change my answer. For me to give you legal advice or opinion, you would need to hire me to be your lawyer, and then we would need to discuss this in detail and go over the documents.
