Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
Only my husbands name is on the deed
I married a man who owned a home with his mother. Both he and his mother are on the deed. He has a will in which I am the beneficiary of any of his assets.
My mother-in-law lives in one part of the house and we live in another.
My question is since my name is not on the deed, if in the event that something happened to my husband, what are my rights to stay in the house?

If you live in part of the house as your marital home, you have a "dower" right to live in the house after he dies. If you are named in his will as sole beneficiary you will get one-half of the house. If his mother dies, it depends on how the deed reads as to what interest he will inherit.
