Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
Illinois type land trust
Iam in the process of paying off my mortgage and am concerned with having
such a large asset in my name available for all the public to see.
My goal is anonymity of ownership as well as shielding my home from
any unforeseen personal financial problems.
I have read about using an Illinois type land trust to hold title to
the deed and having an LLC entity act as the trustee.
Is this type of asset protection used in New Jersey,
and what type of legal specialist will I need to consult with ?

I have read Bob's reply, and while I concur, there is more information needed. What is your family situation - married or single, have children or not, what are your concerns beyond those mentioned, and a rough estimate of your njet worth? I have been doing trusts for 40 years and have many clients whose land ownership is held by a trust (Illinois not necessary), for many reasons - asset protection, estate planning, marital concerns, possible Medicaid planning, anonymity, etc. There are benefits and some small pitfalls depending on what is to be accomplished and how it is done. Contact me directly if you want more information.

Your question is pretty clearly part of some larger issue, and it is very VERY likely that you need accurate legal advice before taking any step such as signing and filing any type of document.
Whether this is related to a divorce, or the estate of a relative, or a business partnership which is breaking up, you need some legal advice. It may not be terribly complicated, and should not cost all that much money.
If you do not take my advice, then please do keep my telephone number handy. If it becomes a problem, then instead of spending a couple of hundred dollars on a lawyer ahead of time, you will be paying me (or someone like me) thousands and thousands of dollars to clean up the mess which has been created.
I have been doing this kind of work for quite a while. Please do not let this kind of disaster happen to you. Please do go see a lawyer FIRST.
If you would like, give me a call; I am in Hackensack (northern New Jersey). I will be happy to discuss
this with you; a brief telephone consultation will be free.
