Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Incorrect Total Rent Amount Stated on Lease

In section 4 of my lease it reads as follows:

The rent for the term of the lease is $2,625, to be paid as follows: $1,750 per month, which is due on the first day of each month.

There was a mistake made in the filling out of the lease, the correct amount should be $21,000 ($1,750x12)for the total rent for the term of the lease.

The lease was signed by all parties and myself and my roomate have been paying the $1,750 per month for 11 months now. Do I have any legal recourse here? Am I required to pay only the stated $2,625?

Re: Incorrect Total Rent Amount Stated on Lease

Suppose the mistake made was that the annual rent is $260,000.00. Would you be insisting that you pay that amount? Of course not. So why do you think that you should only be required to pay $2625? This was a mutual mistake and the annual rent would be your monthly amount times 12. But you knew that already, didn't you!!!
