Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I am an Indian citizen living in the United states & I need to sell an apartment in India which is in my name. I went to the Indian Consulate in New York to make a power of attorney in my husband's name so he could go to India and do the necessary paperwork for the sale. However the Indian consulate refused to attest my signature as the passport is in my maiden name and the property papers are in my married name. The last page of my passport has my husband's name. I do not have any photo ID in my married name. What can I do to give my husband a PoA for this property sale?

Please keep in mind that my response is just a general comment on your question, and not legal advice. I have answered based upon the law of the State of New Jersey where I practice; the laws in other states may be very different, and may result in very different outcomes. The exact details of your situation and things that you have not mentioned in your question can completely change the response I gave. You can not rely upon what I have written as legal advice, because I do not have all of the information that I need to advise you, I only have the very small amount of information that you put into your question.
