You may go to the surrogate's office in the county in which your friend lived when she died. It is located at or near the county courthouse. Once there, you can look up your friend's name to see if a will was probated, and you can obtain a copy of the will since it is a public document. If you do not live near the county where your friend died, you can get the phone number of the appropriate surrogate's office from directory assistance. Then you can call and ask if a will was probated, and they can give you instructions on how to obtain a copy by mail.
