Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Landlord provides lease with unfair conditions

My Landlord has provided a lease for the house that I am renting with unreasonable terms. Is there anyway to take this Landlord to court and have a judge decide what is a fair lease. This house is in need of renovations which I have been doing myself. There are structural problems that I have pose serious health issues with mold that he has not addressed as well as a list of items that were supposed to be fixed and have not been.

I would like to move however, there are children involved and schooling is the problem. I like the house and would buy it for a reasonable price. The new lease does not accredit any portion of the rent towards the purchase of the house. Please advise.

Re: Landlord provides lease with unfair conditions

I am not exactly sure what you require. You signed a lease (I am assuming from your post) but now you don't think its fair.

You want to buy the house but the rent is not going towards the purchase price. Did you sign an option contract?

I would definitely move ofyou have children - their health is more important. Have you called the town's health inspector?

I don't think this forum is the best place to get these serious issues resolved.

Re: Landlord provides lease with unfair conditions

why do you not simply find a place to live that does not cause you such problems?

Mold? health issues for your kids?

Yet you want to buy it and/or take the landlord to court? What do you want?
