my landlord sold...
the house that I am renting. Do they have to compensate me at all for having to leave?

You may not have to leave. Have a lawyer review your lease. A lease is an interest in land that "runs with the land". Unless the lease itself says otherwise, the new owner takes subject to the existing leases. If your lease makes no exception to that, you can stay or you can let them buy out your interest.

If you had a lease that was still in effect, then legally you were entitled to remain in the property until your lease expired. If this was the case, then yes, you should have been compensated.
