Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Legal Bedroom

I recently asked a questions regarding leagl bedroom codes for State of NJ. An attorney advised me to hire and pay an attorney. I am sure somewhere there is a true code or zoning requirement for a legal bedroom. If anyone would like to answer this question please do so.

Re: Legal Bedroom

There is no universal State law, except for building code requirements, as whether or not you are permitted to have another bedroom depends upon each municipality's local Ordinances on what may be permitted; e.g., does adding a bedroom convert a legal one-family residence into an illegal multi-family residence. If all you are doing is adding a new bedroom (for instance, you have another child), this may be permitted, but you need to know many zoning requirements on how to go about it. I suggest talking to your local zoning officer and building department official to see what if what you intend to do is permitted, and what is required.
