Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I live in New Jersey. While I was at work, my neighbor cut down 6 large trees that are on my property. I own a stretch of land that backs up to the rear of his property. In the past, he has always asked for access to my property to get to his backyard. But now he claims that he thought the trees were on his property. These trees were giving me privacy and blocking the view of his house. With their removal, I can now see his house clearly and into his backyard. What legal recourse do I have?

If the trees were on your property, then he has destroyed your trees, and you can sue him.
