Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Owning a Home

I and my ex-fiance own a home together, we broke up. If I leave the house to live in an apartment until the house is sold, am I giving up any of my rights to my home?

The simple answer is no. However, you could be reponsible for carrying costs or repairs until it is sold or you are bought out. What you need to have is a settlement agreement protecting you rights. I can help. Call my office for an appointment and bring a copy of your deed with you.

Re: Owning a Home

This kind of a mess unfortunately happens when boyfriend and girlfriend buy a house without an agreement as to what happens if and when they disagree about what to do with the house.

You really need to sit down with a lawyer before you do anything. You need some advice and guidance.

I would be happy to help you with this. I am in Hackensack. A half hour consultation will be $75.00. You can then decide how you would like to proceed.
