Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

property deed

I would like to add my daughter to the deed to my home, so that in the event of any unforscene ''problems'' she has a place to stay. We live in NJ

Re: property deed

I am not sure of what problems you have in mind but you may be better served by having a will rather than by giving your daugher half your house. She can have problems too and those could result her losing her half interest and making it difficult for you.

Giving away an interest in a primary residence is almost always a bad idea. I would advise you to consult with a lawyer who will take the time to understand what you are trying to do and why. Then it will be possible to achieve your goals without taking unnecessary risks or having unintended tax consequences.
