property left in name of deceased husband

My parents were married for 53 years, father recently died and the deed to their house is in his name only, does she need to go through legal procedures to have property turned over in her name.

Was there a Will? If so, it must be submitted to probate and its terms carried out. If not, a probate proceeding is required anyway, with your mother being appointed as Administrator and the intestacy laws (died without a Will) set forth by statute followed as part of the probate.
