Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Property taxes

My late husband and I own a condo as tenants in common. When he died 2 yrs. ago, he left his half to his four children. I want them to pay half the property taxes. They refuse. Any ideas?

Re: Property taxes

The first question you need to answer is what are you going to do with condo. Keep it or sell it. If you want to keep it, you should buy out your husband's children. At that time you can deduct whatever they owe for back taxes. If you need any further help we specialize in all types of real estate transactions.

Re: Property taxes

Your late husband left you a bit of a mess. Sadly, this kind of trouble happens much more often than you would think.

I usually see this type of problem with stepchildren from a first marriage, conflicting with a second wife. Just a little good advice from an attorney could have saved some serious grief.

There are a couple of ways to deal with it, depending on what the exact legal situation is, and also depending upon what YOU want to have happen.

Give me a call if you would like. I am in Hackensack, right across from the Bergen County Courthouse. I can speak to you on the telephone, but it will take more than just a brief telephone call to assist you with these issues.
