Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I put a deposit down to reserve and apartment. They told me it was going to be available for a move in date of 08-01 which is fine for me. I filed the rental application and they asked me to sign a "welcome letter" where the terms of the potential lease are described. I signed but the next day I realized it has a lease begin date of 07-26-10. Can I cancel the application if they don't agree to modify that and get the deposit back even though I signed this letter?

If you signed a lease, you are bound by the terms of the lease. If the paperwork was only an application, you may change or withdraw it until it has been accepted by the landlord. "Acceptance" in this case means having a signed lease. See also: http://info.corbettlaw.net/lawguru.htm

If you have a problem with these people, call me and I will see what I can do. I can not tell if the 'Welcome letter' means anything or not.until I see it and all other paperwork you signed.

Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and I will go over this with you, and give you some advice.
