how can I receive a copy of the original deed for a house purchased in l967 from a lawyer who retires from practice or who has been deceased?

The deed should have been filed with the County Clerk in the normal course of the transaction. If you know the names of the parties and the approximate date of the transaction, you can find it yourself in the records. If you don't want to do that, any title company will do the search for you for a small fee.
