Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
Recent home buyer mess
We recently purchased a house and within two weeks of buying the house the boiler went and now a month later the sewage pipes and toilet are messed up. The plumber stated that from what he can see this has been an ongoing problem and that they just snaked the pipes to last just long enough to sell the house. What can we as the new homeowners do to the realty company. Is this against the law? Is there some type of law out there to protect home buyers? Is this considered a form of deceptive practice?

Did you get a home inspection before you purchased the property?
Re: Recent home buyer mess
There are a few things you should review with an attorney. First, did the home inspection report disclose any issues. Second, was there a seller disclosure form filled out prior to closing. If so, it would have reflected whether there was notice of any of these problems. The two points listed above should help your case should you decide to pursue a fraud or misrepresentation action.
