Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Help

Hi there,

My ex recently had a tragic accident and is currently in critical condition with possibility of not surviving, or being seriously disabled.

We have not lived together in two years, but my name is still on the deed...although not on the mortgage as he has refinanced at least twice I think.

What am I responsible for if his bills do not get paid? I do not want the house, but he may need to go back in it IF he is able at some point.

I currently live in VA.

Thank you!

Re: Help

Other than the taxes on the property which each of you would share responsibility for, I know of no other bills of this particular individual for which you would be responsible. (Of course, although you're apparently not legally obligated on the mortgage, if it's not paid the house will go into foreclosure.)
