this is a follow up to the answer i just received re: my son's security deposit. he was not aware of a ''30 day written notice of leaving'' letter. the landlord aknowledged that the lease ended on thanksgiving day and my son and roomate were out on that day. are you saying that because this letter was not written, they are out $2,000.?

If they had a written lease and vacated at the enmd of the term, they may not have been required to give written notice. If they were month to month, then the 30 day written notice rule applies. There may often be exceptions, but those are dependant on the facts of the specific case and your son should consult an attorney personally.
