Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

sec. deposit/room rental

We recently rented a room for a party. Having met all contractual obligations, we're expecting full return of our $200 security deposit. It's been 3 weeks with no check in the mail. This is a neighborhood (not ours) rental facility. We've sent numerous emails to the association w/no response. Rental agent agrees we are owed full reimbursement, sent an email herself, but says it is out of her hands. What recourse do we have?

Re: sec. deposit/room rental

Presuming you met all contractual requirements, send a letter by certified mail, return receipt requested (this verifies you have made your claim). If this does not get a response, sue in the local County Small Claims Court. If you win, most costs will be reimbursed as part of a Court decision. In samll claims, you can represent yourself, so you do not need an attorney.
