Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey
I am considering having a solar electric system installed on my house. The solar company sent me a lease contract for 20 years. It states I will pay $85 per month guaranteed for 20 years where I now average$130 per month. The contract/lease is 30 pages of "Legalese", what is the safest way of proceeding? I am 80 yrs. old and I don't want to leave my children with a "Problem House" I live in a Senior community .

Multiply out the monthly payment and figure out how much that totals. It may also not be legal to install the system in your community, which may have restrictions on what can be installed. Then you would be faced with whatever penalties there are for violation of community restrictions. Then call a few lawyers to see how much it will cost to have the contract reviewed. You can pay now, or you or your children can pay later, when the problems have to be dealt with. So before you enter into any such contract, get legal advice from a local lawyer.
THIS RESPONSE IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, SINCE I DO NOT HAVE ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED, AND I DO NOT HAVE A REPRESENTATION AGREEMENT WITH YOU.
* If the answers to your question confirm that you have a valid issue or worthwhile claim, your next step should almost always be to establish a dialog with a lawyer who can provide specific advice to you. Contact a lawyer in your county or township.
* Another reason for contacting a lawyer is that it is often impossible to give a good answer in the Internet Q&A format without having more information. The unique circumstances of your situation and things that you may not have thought to mention in your question may completely change the answer. If you want to be sure that you have a complete answer to your question and an understanding of what that answer means, establish a connection with a lawyer who practices in the area of your concern.
