Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I am the sole owner of a property in new jersey that was used as a business by a partner and myself until december 2007 when the business folded. Since then I have asked him several times to remove a motorcycle, borken down motorhome and a van from the property to no avail. In july 09 I went to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle dept and filed an abandon vehicle report on the only vehicle worth any money which I moved to another location. After my partner recieved the notice, he reported the vehicle stolen to the local police dept. Question Do I have the right to do what I did??

If there is anything wrong with your actions it is technical and not likely to get you in any trouble. Your partner, on the other hand, may have a problem because of the false police report. You can treat the business as a tenant. NJ law has a special provision for how to handle a tenant's abandoned property. You may want to ask your lawyer about the notice requirements and when you can dispose of the property by sale.
