I signed a 2 year lease in January of this year. In May I was notified that my landlord was in the process of loosing the house through a bankruptcy. The house is now listed and the realtor is showing it this week. I have 3 young children here. I am panicing. I was told there is a law or statute protecting the tenant from raising the rent and/or being kicked out. PLEASE help i don't know what my rights are!! THanks for all your help

Re: Tenant rights when landlord looses house

You are a protected tenant pursuant to the New Jersey Anti-Eviction Act, NJSA 2A:18-61.1. You cannot be evicted based upon the information you provided in your inquiry. The State supreme court also issued a decision in CHASE vs. JOSEPHSON which provides that you may not be evicted under your circumstances. If legal action is taken against you, contact an experienced attorney. I can assist you or refer you to someone in your area.
