Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Tenants responsibility for normal wear and tear

I have lived in an apartment for four years. I gave my landlord 10 weeks written notice that I am moving out. He just informed me that he wants me to pay for new carpets and the painting of the walls. When we moved in we agreed that the walls were fine and did not need to be repainted. The carpet is at least 6 years old and I do agree that I have caused some damage to it, but it was not perfect when I moved in. What am I responsible for?

Re: Tenants responsibility for normal wear and tear

you are responsible for normal wear and tear which, realistically, can only ultimately be detrermined by a judge if you cannot work it out with your landlord.
