Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Wrongful eviction

In Mar/02 the 4 fam. rent control property I live for 9 years w/wife, children was bought. They sent notice that month ''the lease was not going to be renewed and that we must vacate.'' They put presure and neighbors moved out. They now rent to new tenant's and increase the rent from $710 to $1000. My wife was protected by the Soldier and Sailor Relief Law. They were upset! They harrased my wife about removing our items from basement or it will be thrown out. They wantes an extra $250. for storage. They voluntarily change the locks twice to our storage space and refused to give keys. Fearing of belonging ending up in the street, my brother went over and removed my items and stored it in a friends basement. I'm pay him storage fees. They falsly accused us of destroying her property. My wife entered into into an agreement (in front of a judge)(Fearing she would end up in the street) to vacate by Feb/01/03 this would give me time to get back from active duty. I'm facing eviction,I'm unemployed, my children attends public school in this town and can't find an affordable housing. More to this story! Was my rights violated? I'm endanger on becoming homeless. I need advice.

Re: Wrongful eviction

You should immediately seek advice from your local military legal assistance office. If you are eligible for relief under the Soldiers' & Sailors' Civil Relief Act or any other provision that affords protection to people serving in the military, you may be referred to the appropriate legal services agency or to a civilian lawyer who has volunteered to assist military personnel in these matters.
