Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in New Jersey

rights of the accused

Prof. of history for 34 years no prior complaints, received email from parent claiming ''improper advances'' were made by to daughter. Cannot recall any such behavior on my part. Parent promises to make my life ''a living hell''. Have reported email to college officials. No formal complaint yet filed, but do not want harassment to continue and wish to be prepared. Should I respond to parental email, if so, how so?

Re: rights of the accused

Don't respond to the parent's email. Let the college/university handle it. If you do not feel they are adequately protecting you, hire an attorney. This type of allegation in this environment could be devastating.
