Birth Certificate Ownership

I live in New Jersey. I am 18 and I am

wondering who has lawful ownership of

my physical birth certificate. Me or my

mother?

This answer is not found in Social Security Law, so I cannot render an opinion. But if you need a copy of your Birth Certificate and your mother will not give it to you or it cannot be found, you can obtain a certfied copy from the New Jersey Bureau of Vital Statistics. see this link:

If you were not born in NJ, perform an internet search for "Birth Certificate (state)" That should produce a link.
