Legal Question in Social Security Law in New Jersey

How do I get a legal alias?

Hi,

I want to have a legal alias because my given name is not common and difficult to pronounce. Even though this alias is also on my passport (I'm a foreigner at a working status in the States), Social Security and Transportantion departments ask me to put my given name, but not both given name and alias on the document.

How can I have a legal alias listed on my social security and driver's license?

Thanks

Re: How do I get a legal alias?

I see nothing in the SS Regs premitting an alias. To the contrary, the regs refer to proof of your legal name. YouCheck out form SS-5 regarding a name change.

A name change involves a legal action filed in your local state court.
