Legal Question in Social Security Law in New Jersey

Social Security Survivor Benefits

My son age 29, died on 8/6/07.

NJ state said no one in his family is eligible for survivor benefits because he was single and had no children.

If that is the case, what happens to all of the money he paid into during his years of employment.
