Legal Question in Tax Law in New Jersey

Business Reg/Tax I.D.

I recently have been trying to get a small business going and i filled out the NJ-Reg online form to register a business and get a certificate of authority for sales and use tax. I think i filled it out wrong because when i got my 2 certificates they both have my SSN as the TIN plus 000 at the end

(looks like: ###-###-###/000), i thought the whole point of the TIN was to keep business seperate from person and so i didnt have to use my SSN. It just does'nt look right on paper. Is there any way i can verify that my forms are in fact correct to keep myself from getting in trouble in the future? Or any way i can change this? and my business deals with custom screen printing tshirts, out of NJ, what do i need to be legal? so far i just have my DBA and the Business Reg and Certificate of Authority, which i think are filled out wrong.

Thanks for your help

Re: Business Reg/Tax I.D.

When you filled out the NJ Reg online you established the business as a sole proprietorship. Most likely, you should have formed a Limited Liability Company.

The best way to set up a business is to do it right in the first place! You need a tax and business attorney to get your business formed properly.

I hope this helps!
