Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
backed into parked car
As I was turning my car around in a parking lot I backed into one of the parked cars. I pulled out to see the damage, but I couldn't see any. A couple was walking by right there and the guy said 'there was no damage'. The car I backed into was did not belong to the couple. As I was looking at the car I backed into the guy said again, he didn't think there was any damage. I could see scuffs or dirt or something on both sides of the bumper, but I didn't know which side I hit. I don't even know where I hit the car.
When the couple got in there and started to pull out, I drove off into another parking lot, (couldn't sit there otherwise they couldn't get out). I panicked and just went to my doctors appointment, after my appointment, at around 10:45am, went back outside, no police anywhere, so I went back to look at the car i hit, and it was gone.
All I know is that the car I hit was a red van. I also don't know if the couple that saw this happen wrote down my license plate number or not.
This happened 36 hours ago on Friday morning, would I have heard something by someone by now if something was reported? All I know is I hit a red van. I had a witness say there is no damage, and I didn't see any either. Should anything be done?

Yes, get the name of a good attorney and call him or her to discuss the case.
Re: backed into parked car
Do not worry about what happened. You could not report the accident to the police, at thi time, if you tried. You do not have a license plate number for the car you hit or the name or address of the owner.
Call me if you hear anything.
