Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Is a court appearance reqd for failure to exhibit insurance ticket in NJ?

Hi, I got a ticket for 'failure to exhibit insurance' 39 3-29 for not having a current Insurance ID, the one I had at the time I got pulled over was expired. I do have insurance coverage just did not have the most recent ins. card in my car at that moment. The ticket does not have the 'Court appearance reqd.' box checked. It will be very hard for me to go to court the day that is listed on the ticket. Can I just go to the clerk and show them the 'proof of insurance'. What happens if I pay the ticket online without going to the court and showing them the proof of insurance.

Thanks..

You are not accused of having no insurance - you are accused of not having the most up to date card in your possession at the time you were pulled over. There is no defense to this ticket - either you showed the police officer the current card or you didn't. In this case you didn't. You can just pay this ticket. You won't get any points or lose your license. It is just a monetary fine.

A court appearance is required. You must call the court at the telephone

number on the back of the ticket to confirm the hearing date.
