Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Court Dates

My sister has an upcoming court date in the state of NJ. After being released from a drug rehabilitiation facility she is living with me in another state. Her offense is driving without car insurance. She is indigent and our family does not have the funds to get her back to NJ for her court appearance. Can we postpone the court date until the family has the funds to enable her to return to NJ? Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Re: Court Dates

Unfortunately, there is no set answer to your question. There may be, however, ways to either get the date postponed, or depending on the facts, arrange for a plea to be entered without your sister being present.

You may be able to handle all or part of this yourselves, however, alot will depend on the individual Court. You may also wish to retain an attorney to help you deal with the Court/explore any possibilities for resolving it without an appearance.

I offer free consultations and practice in Central/South Jersey. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience should you wish to discuss the details of your sister's case.

Thanks,

Daniel Kelley
