DMV won't renew my DL while I'm waiting for approved 1-20 from Immigration

My DL is due to expire in couple weeks.Immigrationwise,I am awaiting approved 1-20 from INS,which is due to arrive in 2 months based on the case status tracking.

Issue is:DMV won't renew my DL without that paper.I need to meanwhile attend classes at the college and be mobile to some extent.

What are my options?

I assume that your driver's license has already expired. It might be possible to get motor vehicles to issue you a temporary license if you are renewing your immigration status instead of applying for the first time.
