Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
dog vs car
A cat crossed my boyfriend's lawn and my dog got loose and chased after it into traffic. The insured's vehicle struck the cat, killing it, then struck my dog. The High Point car insurance company made a payout to their client and is now coming after me for $1400. I have no liability insurance and the accident happened in the road in front of my boyfriend's house, so I don't think his homeowner's will pay. What can I do??
Please advise.

Re: dog vs car
First, I can't figure out where the $1400 came from?
Second, what do you want to do? Getting a lawyer will cost you over $1400. However, taking you to court will cost them more too. Your only options seem to be to settle for a lesser amount or to let them take you to court and make them work for it. However, you may expose yourself to paying the attorney's fees for the lawyers, but I can't tell you whether or not that would happen.
