Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Handicap Parking ticket with required court appearance

I parked in a tow away zone (a spot with diagonal lines) between two handicap spots. I had my lights flashing while I went to my dorm room to drop things off that I wouldn't have been able to carry from the parking lot(which is much farther). There were only two other spots one for staff and another for regular both taken. The whole stop took about 15-20 minutes - i walked to my room which is on the third floor with my arms full and came back down to find a ticket on my windshield. I have a back problem and would not have been able to carry all of my things from the parking lot by myself (I also had to be at a rehearsal so multiple trips would have wasted more time). Is there anything I can use for my defense? And why is court appearance require?

Re: Handicap Parking ticket with required court appearance

The law does not say that you cannot park in that spot unless you have a bad back and only want to drop off some things in your dorm room and it will only take 15-20 minutes, and you have a rehearsal so you can't waste more time. Does any of that sound like a good excuse to you?

You knew you shouldn't be parking there and you did anyway. Go into Court, take responsibility for your actions, plead guilty, pay the fine and learn a lesson.
